Family Business: How Steve Witkoff’s Sons Turned a Peace Envoy’s Access Into a Crypto-and-Oil Payday
While Steve Witkoff plays peace envoy, his sons and his family are accused of turning that access into profit — from Trump-family crypto to sanctioned Russian oil.

WASHINGTON — Steve Witkoff was sold to the public as a dealmaker turned statesman — a billionaire real-estate investor serving as Donald Trump’s Middle East and peace envoy. Follow the money around him, and a different picture emerges: a family that treats that envoy’s access as a profit engine.
Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited Moscow on September 5, 2026, and Kyiv on September 6, 2026. The trips were framed as peace diplomacy. In practice, critics say, they positioned the two men as the middlemen in a deal for the United States to buy Russian diesel.
The Sons and the Crypto Machine
The grift does not stop with Steve. His sons, Zach and Alex Witkoff, are tied to World Liberty Financial, the cryptocurrency platform backed by the Trump family — a venture that has turned political proximity into token sales and personal fortunes. As the father negotiates on behalf of the United States, the family’s financial interests ride alongside every deal he touches.
That overlap shows up directly in the Russian energy play. A group linked to Witkoff and Kushner has been in discussions to buy sprawling oil fields, refineries and gas stations worldwide owned by the sanctioned Russian giant Lukoil. Temporarily lifting or modifying U.S. sanctions to enable the diesel deal would let that group acquire those assets cheaply and profit once trading normalizes.
Donors, Partners and a Crypto Insider
The leading investor group attempting to buy the Lukoil assets includes American investor Todd Boehly, who has donated $2 million to Trump’s political causes, alongside two Middle Eastern groups with active business relationships with the Witkoff family and Kushner. One of the investors in the proposed Lukoil purchase is a part-owner of World Liberty Financial — the same Trump-family crypto platform the Witkoff sons are tied to — closing the loop between the envoy’s diplomacy and his family’s payday.
A peace envoy whose sons profit from the president’s crypto venture, a sanctions-shielded Russian oil grab, foreign partners with family business ties, and a $2 million donor at the center of the buyout: for the Witkoffs, as for the company they keep, the mission looks less like ending a war and more like cashing in on one.
